And the journey continues...

Back from Fraser Island, and again it was a good trip!

I booked a three days guided tour, as I don't trust myself driving in a 4WD. I departed on Monday, after a relaxed day in Harvey Bay (which I needed after the overnight bus from Arlie, with a big smelly man sitting next to me:(). The guide picked us up and with 24 other people we jumped on a 4WD truck and cruised to Basin Lake. Where I walked into Bas en Rienk, it is a small world! From Basin Lake we walked to Central Station and further trough the pine valley, a nice forest with a fresh water creek and big trees. We drove further to Lake McKenzie for lunch. It was already drizzling on the way, but during our picnic it started pouring... The guide told us Lake McKenzie has the same pH as hair conditioner and the sand is perfect to exfoliate the skin. So despite the rain we all went for a swim and a free beauty treatment! Cold, but with a soft skin and shiny hair, we drove back to Kingscliff resort for a hot shower and buffet dinner.

The next morning we had to wait for low tide before we could head to the beach. For Paddie (the guide) a good excuse to drive to the Valley of the Giants. He hadn't been there for 10 years ('We are not lost, I'm just geographically desorientated') and it was quite a bumpy drive on a track not really suitable for a big truck (well, it is now). Everyone enjoyed our little adventure and we managed to squeeze through the forest back to the beach. The afternoon we drove up and down on the beach (a stretch of 75 k's) visiting Eli Creek (brrr.. freezing!), the famous Maheno Ship Wreck, we bubbled in the champagne pools and enjoyed the view from Indian Head. Although the wind and the rain, we had a really fun day!

The third day half of the group left, which was a shame, cause that were the nicest people. With a weird mix of two Australian couples, four Irish people, one loud Canadian, and two (cool) Med kids from New Zealand, we rock and rolled across the island to Lake Wabby. A beautiful green lake with big steep sand dunes. Again it was windy, a bit rainy, but this time Paddie told us about littles fishies that exfoliate the skin by eating the dead cells of the skin. So Ananja and I were sitting in the lake waiting for the fishies ('come fishies, come and eat our callus') but they didn't show up. We head further to Eurong resort for a bbq lunch and relaxed and Lake Birrabeen in the afternoon before we headed back to shore.
